Overview
When Ally Assistant scans your site, it checks the color contrast between text and its background against WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
If text falls below the required contrast ratio, you’ll see it flagged in your Scan Results Table and the in-product remediation panel.
Breaking down the results
Each violation includes the following considerations:
- Contrast ratio: The measured contrast between the text and background (e.g., 4.1).
- Text size: In pixels (px).
- Font weight: Normal (400) or bold (700), which affects WCAG requirements.
- Required minimum:
- 4.5:1 for normal text (under 18px or 14px bold)
- 3:1 for large text (at least 18px or 14px bold)
- 4.5:1 for normal text (under 18px or 14px bold)
Why it matters
Low-contrast text can be difficult or impossible to read for users with low vision or color blindness. Meeting WCAG contrast requirements improves accessibility and user experience.

Tip for faster fixes
If you see multiple elements with similar contrast issues, consider updating your global color settings in your theme or style system. This ensures consistent compliance across your site.
